Greg Newkirk

Greg Newkirk  is the co-founder and Editor-In-Chief of Week in Weird, a documentary film-maker,  a professional monster chaser,  and mystery monger.

While Greg’s adventures into the paranormal began in the early 90s, in 1998 he founded the paranormal investigation outfit Ghost Hunters, Incorporated, which was when the fun really started. In its decade-long run, GHI sought out the strange all over the Northeastern United States, documenting hundreds of cases of anomalous activity, many of which became the subject of documentary films, books, lectures, and numerous ongoing investigations by countless paranormal investigation teams.

In 2007, Greg co-founded Week in Weird in an effort to provide a fun and informative way to log anomalous news, document the strange, and investigate all things unexplained. Eight years later Week in Weird is still going strong and reaching hundreds of thousands of other weirdos each month.

By day, Greg is busy pointing adventurous road warriors toward the world’s weirdest destinations as the face of video content for Roadtrippers, the fastest growing travel website in the world. Greg’s writing is regularly featured both in print and online in publications like Disinformation, Gizmodo, Cryptomundo, and Jalopnik, as well as in local and national news networks across the country.

By night, Greg tracks down and investigates cases of the anomalous, the paranormal, and the occult with Planet Weird, and it’s this research that has had him criss-crossing the continent for nearly two decades in search of monsters, mysteries, and magick. In that time he’s tackled cases of encounters with mine-dwelling extraterrestrial “goblins”, witnessed the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights, drank questionable liquids with real vampires, and had books thrown at him by a poltergeist trapped in a church.

In addition to researching, investigating, and writing about the paranormal, Greg has acted as a consultant for numerous television productions on the subject of the strange, including projects that have aired on A&E, Destination America, Bio, and the Discovery Channel. In 2011, Greg directed and edited the award-winning documentary The Bigfoot Hunter: Still Searching, a film that follows an ex-military monster hunter as he treks deep into the woods of southern New York in search of the Sasquatch.

Greg is currently in production on his ambitious new project titled Engaging the Strange, an original documentary web series that aims to investigate the world’s weirdest mysteries like never before.

He loves road trips, is terrified of space aliens, and hates it when people call him a skeptic.
